Barbara J. Carpenter, 75, of Bloomington, passed away at her residence on Thursday, Sept. 21, 2006.
Born on April 14, 1931 in Owen County, she was the daughter of Herman Ray Freeman and Frauline (Livingston) Freeman.
She had worked at Indiana University in the food services department for 18 years before her retirement. She was active in many senior citizens activities and had attended Mount Calvary Baptist Church in Bloomington.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Jody and Teresa Carpenter of Owensburg; a daughter and son-in-law, Beth and Melvin Wilson of Bloomington; a sister, Josephine Pogue of Spencer; six grandchildren, Emily May, Amelia Wilson, Amber Holt, Andy and Lisa Moffatt and Brandie Branaman; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ralph Carpenter, an infant son, Jeffrey Donald Carpenter; a brother, Donald Freeman; and two sisters, Maxine Albright and Janice Wiley.
Visitation was held on Sunday at Allen Funeral Home. Services will be today at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Richard Borden officiating. Burial will follow at Walnut Grove Cemetery near Bloomfield.
