George E. Greene, 90, of Bloomington, passed away Monday, Aug. 7, 2006, in the Meadowood Health Pavilion in Bloomington.
Born May 8, 1916 in Sullivan County, he was the son of Ray E. and Bonnie (Chastain) Greene.
He was a certified public accountant and was a senior partner with George E. Greene and Company, CPAs.
He received his B.S. degree in accounting from Indiana University in 1937. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Bloomington Rotary Club, served as the president of the Indiana CPA Society, and was a member of the Council of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, where he was a member of the Trial Board and Ethics Committee. He also served as editor of the Practitioner's Forum of the Journal of Accountability.
He served in the U.S. Navy as a lieutenant from 1943-46.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Vera (Wampler) Greene, of Bloomington; two sons, David E. Greene and his wife, Barbara Bealer, of Bloomington, and James K. Greene, of Champaign, Ill.; one brother, Edgar Greene, of Linton; one sister Anita Fulford, of Gosport; two grandchildren, Steven E. Greene and Andrew J. Greene, both of Champaign, Ill.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Alfred Greene and Donald Greene.
Memorial service will be at 1 p.m. on Aug. 26 at Day Funeral Home in Bloomington with the Rev. Joseph Emerson officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to service at the funeral home.
