Donald Leroy Mottern, 69, of Newberry, passed away Sunday, Aug. 20, 2006 at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville.
Born July 18, 1937 in Newberry, he was the son of John J. and Strausie (Saul) Mottern.
He was a retired law enforcement officer. He was the Assistant Chief of Police in Elberta, Ala., when he retired. He was a member of the FOP in Alabama. He was of the Lutheran faith.
Surviving relatives include his wife Lavonne (Smith) Mottern of Newberry; six children: Pamela Sylvester of Silverhill, Ala., Kelly Ilsley, of Summerdale Alabama, Allyson Parden of Loveland, Colo., Donald J. Mottern of Alabaster, Ala., Eva McDuffie of Orange Beach, Ala., and Larry Workman of Summerdale. Ala.; one sister, Sue Neal of Waynetown; 17 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters: Evelyn Wampler and Mary Lou Britton; and one brother Johnnie Mottern.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at Jenkins Funeral Home in Bloomfield. Burial will be at Newberry Cemetery.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the hour of service at the funeral home.
