E. Deloris Dudley Silverman, 90, of Terre Haute, passed away Sunday, Aug. 27, 2006 in Meadows Manor East in Terre Haute.
Born Nov. 4, 1915 in Greene County, she was the daughter of George Dudley and May Moody Dudley. She was married Oct. 11, 1944, to Sidney M. Silverman, who preceded her in death in 1979.
She taught the primary grades for 22 years in Vigo County at Rea and Sandison schools and also taught at Dugger and Washington schools.
She was a graduate of Wiley High School and Indiana State Teachers College, where she was a member of the Epsilon Delta sorority. She was active in many organizations. She was a member of the Woman's Department Club, Indiana Eta Master Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi sorority, a charter member of Alpha Delta Kappa teachers honorary, Sugar Grove Home Extension Club, Vigo County Retired Teacher's Association. She also was a member of Northside Community United Methodist Church, and Mature Singles Travel Club. She was a former member of the First Nighters of the Community Theater, Sigma Delta Pi teachers sorority, American Association of University Women, Vigo County Business and Professional Women's Club and the Symphony Society. She also did office work at the Cancer Society and the Terre Haute Symphony. She delivered Meals on Wheels and did friendly visits to homebound cancer patients.
Survivors include: one daughter and husband, Sherleen and Tim McKinney of Columbus; two nieces, Judy Cox of Linton, and Martha Silverman of Terre Haute; one nephew, J. Allen Silverman of Silver Springs, Md.; three great-nephews, Dr. Bryan Cox and Scott Dudley, both of Linton, and Michael Cox of Bloomington; and one great-niece, Krista Carpenter of Williamsburg, Va. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Bryan Dudley and Tony Dudley.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday at Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home in Terre Haute with the Rev. Frank Oakman officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park.
Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. today, and from 9:30 a.m. until services on Tuesday.
