VINCENNES -- Brenda K. Chattin, 50, wife of Vincennes University Director of Public Information Duane Chattin, passed away at 4:25 a.m. on Friday, July 7, 2006 at Good Samaritan Hospital.

Born May 27, 1956 in Jasper, she was the daughter of John and Pat (Englert) Braum.

She was well known for her work in the community, most recently as Information and Assistance Coordinator for Generations. She was employed at Good Samaritan Hospital at its Willows Intensive Youth Services. She had been previously employed by Dr. Donald L. Snider, M.D. as a Medical Assistant, Children and Family Services, as a Relief Houseparent for the Knox County Youth Shelter, By Dr. J. Frank Stewart M.D., Associated Physicians and Surgeons Clinic, Indiana Vocational Technical College, and the Jasper Park and Recreation Department.

She was a graduate of Jasper High School, Indiana Vocational Technical College, in Terre Haute, and Vincennes University. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Vincennes. She was very involved in the Vincennes Jaycee Women's Club. She was the local president in 1980 and had held every local office. She was the State Muscular Dystrophy Chairman in 1982-83. She was recognized nationally in 1983 as Outstanding Program Manager for this achievement. She had attended three national conventions. She was recently credited for her years of Jaycee training for her ability to do the job she had at VU. She was also active in the Knox County Humane Society having served as its president in 1986 and 1987.

Survivors include: her husband Duane Chattin; her parents, John and Pat Braum; two daughters, Katie and Lisa Chattin, both at home; and two sisters, Beth King and Barbara McAtee, both of Jasper.

Funeral service was at 10 a.m. today at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Vincennes.

Visitation was Monday at the Gardner-Brockman Funeral Home, Vincennes.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Knox County Humane Society for the spay-neuter program or the Knox County Community Foundation, for the Dr. Herbert and Edna Chattin Nursing Scholarship at Vincennes University.
