William H. Hicks, 75, of Brazil, passed away at 9:15 p.m. on Friday, July 21, 2006 at his residence following a brief illness.
Born Feb. 10, 1931 in Terre Haute, he was the son of Cyril W. and Mary Herbert Hicks. On Feb. 16, 1957, he married Sue Ann Brown Hicks.
He was a 1950 graduate of Brazil High School. The former owner of Hicks Auto Supply, Inc., a business founded by his father in 1921, he had retired approximately 10 years ago. For several years, he served on the Clay County Alcohol Beverage Commission. He was a Korean War veteran and an active member for 52 years of the American Legion. In 2005 he received its Distinguished Service Award at the Annual State Convention. A commander of the Local Post 2, he held that position on three occasions. In addition, he had served in many capacities at both state and national levels and had been an attendee at 40 national conventions.
Other memberships were the 40 et 8, VFW Post 1127, BPO Elks Lodge, the Moose and Eagles Lodges, Masonic Lodge No. 264, and the Last Man's Club No. 5, all of Brazil, and the Scottish Rite, Valley of Terre Haute.
Survivors include: his wife Sue Ann of Brazil; a son Troy Hicks and his wife Cindy of Brazil; a sister Ann Hicks of Brazil; a grandson Michael Okulovich of Brazil; and three great-grandchildren, Cainan, Brevan, and Jace.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. on Wednesday in Lawson-Miller Chapel, 1702 E. National Ave., Brazil, with the Rev. Howard Hughes officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the American Legion and VFW Cremation will follow.
Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.
