UNION, MICH. -- Dorothy Ann "Bunky" Brown, 75, of Union, Mich., passed away at 10:28 a.m. Monday, May 22, 2006, at Goshen General Hospital after a lengthy illness.
Born April 9, 1931 in Carroll County, Ohio, she was the daughter of Charles and Lilian (Ferguson) Paterson. On Nov, 27, 1953 in Carbondale, Ill., she married James H. Brown.
She had been an English and Spanish teacher for 34 years at Evergreen Park High School in Evergreen, Ill., before retiring in 1986. In 1968, she and her husband purchased their Indiana Lake property as a summer home, but decided to move to the area permanently after her retirement. She later became an officer in the Indiana Lake Organization, a member of the Cass County Conservation Club and was past Worthy Matron of the Vandalia Lodge of the Eastern Star in Union, Mich. She was an accomplished organist and enjoyed playing at different Eastern Star Lodges for their meetings. She was a prolific genealogist as well and enjoyed traveling around the United States collecting and tracing family information and she was an avid reader.
Survivors include: her husband, James of Union, Mich.; a brother-in-law, John H. Brown of Marco; a sister-in-law, Lois Fish of Marco; and a sister-in-law, Betty Jo Brown of Marco.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Mabel, who passed away in 1968, a brother-in-law George Brown of Lyons, in 1994, and a sister-in-law Mary (Brown) Bovenchen, in 1995.
There was no visitation or memorial service and, at her request, her body was cremated.
An Eastern Star memorial service will be scheduled at a later date at the Edwardsburg Masonic Lodge.
