Lester M. Coker, 83, of Bloomfield, passed away at 9:15 a.m. Wednesday, June 28, 2006, at his residence.

Born January 1, 1923 in Marco, he was the son of Orval Coker and Charity Faye (Kirk) Coker. On October 4, 1951, he married Leatrice E. (Rollins) Coker.

He was a WWII veteran of the U.S. Navy MADCATS VP 63 Squadron. He was an engineering technician at NSWC Crane, retiring in 1978. He was a graduate of Marco High School and an Elder of the Switz City Christian Church. He was a member of the Bloomfield American Legion Post #196, the AFGE, NARFE, and ABATE.

Survivors include: his wife of 54 years, Leatrice E. Coker of Bloomfield; two sons, Terry Coker and his wife Terri (Wilson) of Bloomfield, and Ron Coker of Bloomfield; a daughter-in-law Angela (Sharr) Coker of Bloomfield; seven grandchildren, David Guthrie and his wife Alice of Indianapolis, Jason Coker of Lyons, Anne and her husband Timothy Pruett of Springville, Neil Coker of Bloomington, Stephanie Graves of Bloomington, Elizabeth Coker of Bloomfield, and Amber Coker of Bloomfield; four great-grandchildren, Isaac and Emily Guthrie of Indianapolis, and Ethan and Ashton Pruett of Springville; two sisters, Jean and her husband Jim Page of Linton, and Wanda Baker of Linton; two brothers, Orval (Bud) and his wife Lou Coker of Calhan, Colo., and Stanley (Pete) and his wife Flo Coker of Bicknell; and two sisters-in-law, Treva Hobbs of Bloomfield, and Glenora and her husband Miles Skinner of Bloomfield.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Wilma Nelle (Haywood) Coker, a son Russel in 2003, two sisters, and one brother.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Jenkins & Sons Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Rev. Billy Ed Hostettler and Rev. Chris Gehring officiating. Burial will be at Prairie Chapel Cemetery at rural Lyons. Military services will be conducted by the Bloomfield American Legion Post #196.

Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. today and one hour prior to services on Friday at the funeral home.
