Earl J. Haywood, 85, of Bloomfield, passed away at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, April 2, 2006 at Bell Trace Health & Living Center in Bloomington.
Born June 11, 1920 in Bloomfield, he was the son of James Howard Haywood and Julia Anna Noel.
He was a retired supervisor in the Ordinance Department at Crane NWSC. He served during World War II Normandy Invasion as T Sergeant, Quartermaster and Artillery for the US Army. He also served during the Korean War. He was a member of the Solsberry Christian Church and served on the Bloomfield Town Council.
Survivors include: his wife Joann Sparks Haywood of Bloomfield; a son Steve Haywood and his wife Debbie of Martinsville; a daughter Susie and her husband Larry Ingram of Bloomington; a step-son Jeff Sparks and his wife Catherine of Solsberry; a step-daughter Jennifer Sparks of Bloomington; three grandchildren, Stephanie and her husband John Riker, Heather Denise Ingram, and Jacquelyn Sue Ingram; two step-grandchildren, Ryan Sparks and Curtis Sparks; three great-grandchildren, Linda Sue, Samuel and Grace Riker; and one step great-grandson Jackson Sparks.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Marjorie Haywood, who passed away Sept. 4, 1980, an infant brother, an infant sister, and a sister Eva Marie Waldie.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. on Wednesday at Solsberry Christian Church in Solsberry with Pastor John Riker officiating. Burial will be in Valhalla Memory Gardens in Bloomington.
Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. today at Jenkins Funeral Home in Bloomfield, and 1 p.m. until the hour of service Wednesday at the church.
