UNIONDALE -- John W. McBride, 86, of Uniondale, passed away at 5:20 a.m. on Sunday, April 16, 2006 at Canterbury Nursing and Rehabilitation.
Born March 23, 1920 in Gilmore, he was the son of Ralph and Hattie (Williams) McBride. On Nov. 26, 1977 in Swayzee, he married Shirley (Coon) McBride.
He was superintendent of Norwell Schools from 1970 to 1985, retiring in 1985. He had a Masters Degree from Ball State. He was a Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Bluffton and a member of the Lions Club and the Full Gospel Society.
Survivors include: his wife Shirley McBride of Uniondale; a son Mark Russell of Uniondale; three daughters, Carolyn (Mrs. Les) Newman of Linton, Debra (Mrs. Don) Adams of Huntington, and Janice (Mrs. Van) Huntman of Port St. Lucy, Ill.; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Inez (Mrs. Herman) Funk of Linton, Betty (Mrs. Dick) Stevenson of Jasonville, and Ruth (Mrs. Colen) Whitlock of Farmersburg.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday at Goodwin Memorial Chapel, 3220E State Road 124, Bluffton, with Dr. Gene Bell and Pastor Wayne Ball officiating. Burial will be at Thrailkill Cemetery in Swayzee. Graveside service will be at the cemetery at 1:30 p.m.
Friends may call Thursday from 4-8 p.m. at the chapel.
