Ralph M. Carpenter Jr., 64, of Worthington, passed away at 1:08 a.m. Sunday, April 23, 2006, at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, Ill.
Born March 31, 1942 in Sullivan, he was the son of Ralph M. Carpenter Sr. and Daisy (Haviland) Carpenter.
He retired from NSWC Crane and the Army reserve. He was an Army veteran of Desert Storm and a member of Coalmont Baptist Church, the Worthington V. F. W. Post 7117 and the Linton Bass Club.
Survivors include: his wife Deloris (Earlywine) Carpenter of Worthington; two daughters, Pamela and her husband Jeff Lester of Freedom and Lee Ann Carpenter of North Plainfield, N.J.; a son Brian Carpenter and his wife Vinnie of Spencer; four grandchildren, Ashley and Zach Lester, Leslie Kelley and Amy Oakley; four great-grandchildren, Madison and Jaylan Cunningham, Kyra Taylor and Lilly Stahl; one brother Randy Carpenter of Indianapolis; two sisters, Edwina Vaugh of Sullivan and Shirley Carpenter of St. Louis, Mo.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Paul Carpenter.
Funeral service will be at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Worthington at 11 a.m. on Thursday with Keith Bellinger officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Bethel Cemetery.
Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 a.m. until time of service on Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the Greene County Veterans Van Fund, for transportation to VA Hospital.
