Robert J. "Bob" Ingersoll, 87, of Worthington, passed away at 10:55 p.m. Sunday, April 16, 2006 at Greene County General Hospital in Linton.
Born June 22, 1918, he was the son of Charles Lee and Nellie (Jean) Ingersoll. He had been married to Jean (Hoffman) Ingersoll, who passed away May 13, 2001.
He was a buyer for Producers Stock Yard in Terre Haute, and formerly operated flower shops in Worthington, Spencer, and Bloomfield. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of Folsom Memorial United Methodist Church, the Worthington Lions Club, and a charter member of W-J Ruritan. He was a Republican Precinct Committeeman for several years. He was a former member of Vigo County Cerebral Palsy Board of Directors. He helped establish schools and homes for the mentally and physically handicapped.
Survivors include: a son John H. Ingersoll and his wife Pennie of Mendham, N.J.; a daughter Jane Ingersoll of Terre Haute; Todd and Brent Ingersoll of New Jersey; and four great-grandchildren, Carson, Riley, Cooper and Hadley.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Jean, and a brother Joseph L. Ingersoll.
A memorial service will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Worthington with the Rev. Doug Sanders officiating.
The family will be at the funeral home after noon on Saturday.
