Dennis N. Harp, 79, of Bloomfield, passed away at 5:55 p.m. on Sunday, March 5, 2006 at Greene County General Hospital in Linton.
Born March 4 1927 near Owensburg, he was the son of Sylvester "Vester" Harp and Ethel Bruce.
He had polio when he was a baby, but it did not stop him from living an active life. He enjoyed his family, loved playing horseshoes, checkers and cards. After the death of his parents, he and his brother Ora "Poke" Harp made their home together near the Bloomington Crane gates where they lived until moving to Meadow Lark Apartments in Bloomfield in 1989. In 2004, he went to Lyons Health & Living Center. He attended Crabb and Owensburg schools and was a member of the Kentucky Ridge Baptist Church.
Survivors include: a sister Dorothy Hostetter; a niece Wilma Harp Helms; six nephews, Frank Harp, Darwin Harp, Robert Hostetter, Cecil Spoonmore, Dale Spoonmore, and Garold Spoonmore; and a several of cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, Ora, Woodrow, Walter, Zelbert and Hubert Harp, two sisters, Zona Harp and Ona Spoonmore, and two nieces Janet Sue Harp and Phyllis Beatty.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. on Wednesday at Jenkins Funeral Home in Bloomfield with the Rev. Billy Ed Hostettler officiating. Burial will be at Kentucky Ridge Cemetery.
Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. today, and 1 p.m. until the hour of service Wednesday at the funeral home.
