WRV coach optimistic despite setback

Friday, March 31, 2006

SWITZ CITY -- White River Valley softball coach Jennifer McKinnon truly feels this will be one of the best seasons of softball for the Wolverines.

But after WRV's home loss to Bloomington North, 12-0, things could look a little misleading.

"I couldn't believe they were first on our schedule," said McKinnon.

"We've got some potential. We just have to get them in the right position. We've got high hopes for this year."

Kelsey Yakes started for the Wolverines and went five innings. She gave up 14 hits, 12 runs, nine of those earned, four walks and struck out three.

"We just want to win," stressed McKinnon. "We'll win quite a few games if they keep their heads in the game. It looks discouraging when you start with Bloomington North and get beat like we did. But we feel our hitting is better this year. They just couldn't catch up with the change up no matter how many times I told them it was coming."

WRV didn't have a hit as Danielle Hobbs and Emily Crohn combined for a no-hitter.

The Wolverines will play at home on Tuesday against Shakamak.
