Terry J. Flater, 59, of Jasonville, passed away Tuesday morning, Jan. 31, 2006 at Wishard Memorial Hospital in Indianapolis.
Born Nov. 21, 1946 in Linton, he was the son of Paul and Ruby (Cooper) Flater. On May 1, 1965, he married Iris M. (Simpson) Flater.
He was a guard at Carlisle Penitentiary, worked at Buck Creek Coal Mine, UMWA, and Newport Army Ammunition Depot. He retired in 1984 after 20 years of service in the Air Force. He served in Vietnam from November 1967 through November 1968. He was a member of the Jasonville First Baptist Church, and the Clay City VFW Post 6066.
Survivors include: his wife Iris M. Flater of Jasonville; a daughter and son-in-law, Rhonda M. and Roger Berry of Crestview, Fla.; a son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Tracy Flater of Patoka; a sister and brother-in-law, Rueann and Robert Baker of Murphy N.C.; a brother and sister-in-law, Dale Lee and Joan K. Flater of Pittsboro; grandchildren, P. Austin Berry and Alycia M. Berry; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral service is at 2 p.m. Friday at McClanahan-Lee Funeral Home in Jasonville with the Rev. Phillip Bilyeu officiating. Burial will be at Lebanon Cemetery in Midland with military graveside rites.
Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. on Thursday, and from 9 a.m. until the time of service Friday at the funeral home.
