Meeda Evelyn Gambill-Kennedy, 91, of Arlington Heights, Ill., and formerly of Linton, passed away at 8:15 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2006 at Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights.
Born Oct. 12, 1914 in Linton, she was the daughter of Otis and Pearl (Heaton) Gray.
She owned the Western Auto Store, the Paul Gambill Store, and the Kennedy Shoe Store, all in Linton. She was a member of the first Linton First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include: a daughter Sharla L. (Gambill) and her husband John Rustemeyer of Arlington Heights, Ill.; a son P. Alan Gambill and his wife Joetta of LaQuinta, Calif.; six grandchildren, Mark, Lisa and Jeff Rustemeyer, Timi Lynn Corsentino, and Brad and Cara Gambill; and 14 great-grandchildren, Emily, Kyle, Daniel, Kaitlyn, Colin, Meghan, Aidan, Jessi, Kasey, John, Tyler, Mollie, Zach and Sam.
Her first husband, Paul Gambill, preceded her in death Jan. 4, 1945 during the Battle of the Bulge. Her second husband, Jack Kennedy, preceded her in death Feb. 22, 1978. She was also preceded in death by her parents, a brother Roy Gray, and a sister Eleane Richardson.
Funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Monday at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home Linton Chapel with the Rev. Doug Witt officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Linton.
Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. on Sunday, and after 9 a.m. on Monday at the funeral home.
The family had suggested that memorial donations be made to the American Diabetes Association or to the Linton First United Methodist Church through the funeral home.
