Barbara Ellis, 54, formerly of Solsberry, passed away Thursday, Jan. 5, 2006 at Baptist Hospital in Knoxville, Tenn.
Born June 28, 1951 in Cincinnati, Ohio, she was the daughter of Charles and Opal Boyer. On June 6, 1987, she married Steve Ellis.
She graduated from Seymour High School, Cincinnati, Ohio, in 1969. She was one of the founding members of the Hoosier Hills Chrysalis Community, where she served as Community Lay Director and Emmaus Walk Lay Director. She also served on Music Teams, Kitchen Teams, Clown Ministry Team and in many other capacities. She and her husband were Lay Directors of the first Chrysalis Flight at Camp In-Di-Co-So in 1999. She was a Children's Leader for the Bible Study Fellowship Women's Evening Group in Bloomington for many years. She taught English in the mission field of China for two summers. She attended Ivy Tech College in Bloomington for two years before being led to Johnson Bible College in Knoxville. She obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Bible and Counseling in May 2005 and was presently working on her Master's Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy.
She enjoyed her time in the mountains, time with her special dogs, Hannah and Shanna, and time back home in Indiana with family and friends.
Survivors include: her husband Steve; her godmother Isa Titus; and three nieces, Heather, Amy, and Carly.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother Mike Boyer.
A special Celebration of Life will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Bonds Chapel United Methodist Church located 12 miles west of Orleans on Vincennes Road. A celebration will also be in Bloomington for the Emmaus Community at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Johnson Bible College, 7900 Johnson Drive, Knoxville, Tenn., 37998, designating the gifts to the Barbara Ellis Scholarship Fund or the Barbara Ellis Medical Expense Fund.
