GAS CITY -- Alma E. (Heaton) Smith, 97, of Gas City, passed away at 5 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 9, 2006 at her residence.
Born Sept. 25, 1908 in Greene County, she was the daughter of William E. and Martha Jane (Phipps) Heaton. She had been married to Francis M. Smith. He preceded her in death in October 1976.
She retired from Aldens Department Store in Bloomington and also formerly worked at Wicks Department Store in Bloomington. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star for over 50 years, and was currently a member of the Order of Eastern Star in Gas City. She was a member of the Gas City First United Methodist Church since 1970 and a member of the Mill Township Extension Homemakers Club.
Survivors include: two daughters, Mary Ann Hoskins and Jerri Patterson, both of Gas City; five grandchildren, Michael Hoskins, Stephen Hoskins, Jimmy Clem, Gary Clem, and Renee Arenibar; and two great-grandchildren, Ryan Hoskins and Bryson Arenibar.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Francis, two brothers, Everette and Ward Heaton, and two sisters, Marguerite Shields and Avis Stone.
Funeral service will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, Storey Chapel, 400 East Main St., Gas City, with the Rev. Robyn Axel-Adams officiating. Burial will be at Grandview Cemetery in Bloomfield with a graveside service at 2 p.m.
Friends may call today from 4-8 p.m. with an Order of Eastern Star Service at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
