Joseph I. Achors, 82, of Bloomington and formerly of Doans, passed away at 10:40 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 31, 2005 at Bloomington Hospital.
Born June 13, 1923 in Doans, he was the son of James and Eliza (Mowery) Achors. He had been married to Iris June (Terrell) Achors, who passed away in 1999.
He was an U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a supervising electronic technician for Sarkes Tarzian in Bloomington. He was a member of the Trinity Baptist Church, and a former member of the American Legion Post 196 in Bloomfield.
Survivors include: three sons, Davie Joe Achors of St. Louis, Mo., James Achors of Bloomfield, and Jeff Achors of Bloomington; two daughters, Charlotte Kroening of Hope, and Brenda Strange of Bloomfield; two step-daughters, Kathy Parham and Sharon Nieto, both of Midland, Texas; three brothers, John Achors of Martinsville, Luther Achors of Shelbyville, and James Achors of Eaton Rapids, Mich.; three sisters, Hildred Gahlmer of Franklin, Cora Cutsinger of Edinburgh, and Emma White of Linton; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Iris June, two brothers, Noah and Charles, and an infant sister Mary.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Friday at Jenkins & Sons Funeral Home, Bloomfield with the Rev. James Swaby officiating. Burial will be in Kentucky Ridge Cemetery, Bloomfield. Military services will be conducted by the American Legion Post 196 of Bloomfield.
Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday and one hour prior to service Friday at the funeral home.
