Virginia Mae Combs, 92, of Bloomfield, passed away at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2005 at her residence.
Born Aug. 3, 1913 in Van Wert, Ohio, she was the daughter of Frank and Lula (Hager) Montgomery. She had been married to Lex V. Combs, who passed away Oct. 29, 1987.
She was a school teacher and a homemaker. She graduated from Fort Wayne South High School in 1931. She later graduated from St. Frances College and taught in the Fort Wayne School System. She and her husband Lex moved to Bloomfield, where she taught in the Bloomfield Elementary School in the late 1960s and early 1970s. She was active in the State Teachers Association and the Indiana Retired Teachers Association. She was a member of the Business Professional Club, Homemakers Club, the Indiana Retired Teachers Association, and the Argonaut Club.
Survivors include: a son Jim Combs and his wife Lynn of Bloomfield; three grandsons, Chad Richardson Combs of Evansville, Ben Combs, stationed at Yokasuka, Japan, and Luke Combs of Charlotte, N.C.; two great-grandchildren, Drew Richardson Combs and Katie Richardson Combs, both of Evansville; two sisters, Suzie Brown and Lou Montgomery, both of Reno, Nevada; a brother Frank Montgomery of Reno, Nevada; and a nephew Tony Thomas of Bloomfield.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Lex, two brothers, Howard and John Montgomery, and a sister Alice Thomas.
A memorial service will be at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 12 at Jenkins & Sons Funeral Home, Bloomfield, with the Rev. Billy Ed Hostettler officiating. Her wishes were to be cremated.
Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 12 at the funeral home.
