Dr. Betty Joy Dukes, 85, of Bloomington and formerly of Dugger, passed away Monday, Nov. 21, 2005 at Bloomington Hospital.
Born June 22, 1920 in Elwood, she was the daughter of Frank (Dick) and Marie Giselbach Dickerson. She was married to Dr. Joseph E. Dukes.
She practiced medicine in Dugger from 1947 to 1990, having delivered more than 14,000 babies. She was a member of the Dugger First Christian Church, was on the Board of Directors for the Riley Hospital in Indianapolis, the Katherine Hamilton Hospital in Terre Haute, and the Mary Sherman Hospital in Sullivan.
Survivors include: her husband Dr. Joseph E. Dukes of Bloomington; three sons and their wives, Dr. Michael and Judy Dukes of Evansville, Dr. Russell and Sue Dukes of Bloomington, and Bob and Tomie Dukes of Bloomington; a sister Shirley Volz of Indianapolis; seven grandchildren, Megan, Heather, Joe, Katie, Cami, Craig, and Brett; and three great-grandchildren, Josh, Danielle, and Ashley.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and a sister Marybelle Rabourn.
Friends may call at Newkirk's Funeral Home in Dugger from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. on Friday. Family services will follow.
