Audrey Elizabeth (Hancock) Ennis, 88, passed away at 4 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2005 in the Hospice House of St. Joseph County.
Born Jan. 29, 1916 in Greene County, she was the daughter of George and Aura Hancock. On Jan. 25, 1942, she was united in marriage to James Robert Ennis. They were married for 47 years when he passed away June 16, 1989.
She was a longtime member of the Ardmore Brethren Church. She was also a 50-year member of the 569 Chapter of the Eastern Star of St. Joseph County, where both she and her late husband were very active members. She received her Grand Cross of Color from the Rainbow Girls in 1963. She worked for some time at the Memorial Hospital of South Bend. While living in Sullivan in her later years, she volunteered at the Sullivan County Meal on Wheels, Sullivan County Community Hospital, and the Sullivan County Library.
Survivors include: her daughter-in-law Cheryl A. Ennis; two grandchildren, Howard Robert Ennis and his partner Kathie Mason, and Heather Renee Boughner-Ennis, her husband John Bradley, and their children Johnathan Francis and Anna Elizabeth; her brother-in-law Ray Deckard; her nieces and nephews, Keith, Carolyn, Rusty, and Nancy, and their families; and her "adopted" grandchildren, the entire family of Carl and Donna Lawson, Charles, Carl, Connie, Clifford, Cathy, Chris, and their families.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband James, and a son James Robert Ennis, Jr., who passed away Nov. 19, 1992.
Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Newkirk's Funeral Home, Dugger, with tge Rev. Cheryl Ennis and Rev. John Booker officiating. Burial will be in Dugger Cemetery.
Friends may call from 11 a.m. until the time of service Saturday at the funeral home.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Hospice House of St. Joseph County or the Indiana Masonic Home.
