LYONS -- A new business in Lyons, which focuses on catering to women, is now open.
La Gaterie Spa Retreat had an open house last week and is now taking appointments for massages, body treatments, facials, manicures and pedicures.
La Gaterie is French for a place that a person goes to be spoiled or treat themselves.
Sheri Hamilton, who owns the spa, said it's for women only.
A variety of table massages are offered including deep tissue, deep muscle and Swedish massages. A variety of oils and lotions -- fragrance and fragrance free -- are also offered.
With a 20-minute massage, which costs $25, one can choose to have their legs and feet or shoulders, arms and hands massaged.
With a 30-minute massage, which costs $35, the focus is on the upper body, including back, neck, shoulders, arms, hands and head.
A 45-minute massage, which costs $50, focuses on the upper body plus legs and feet.
A 60-minute full body massage costs $70.
Each massage comes with a complimentary beverage, such as juice or tea, and fruit and chocolate or cheese and cracker assortment. The full body massage also includes a special gift.
Body treatments, which can soften dehydrated skin and help eliminate unwanted toxins, are also offered.
Parafango wraps combine mineral rich sea mud and paraffin in a powerful restorative body mask with a geothermal effect, producing an increase in body temperature that stimulates circulation and eliminates toxins, including unwanted fat stores from the tissues. Parafango wraps cost $40.
Herbal wraps utilize nature's herbs including rosemary leaf, lavender, chamomile, eucalyptus leaves and rose petals to wrap the body in a purifying and cleansing body wrap. For hundreds of years, herbs have been used to help detoxify and contour the body. The cost of herb wraps are $35.
All body treatment include a warm, invigorating shower with the use of slippers, a robe and disposable under garments.
Manicures and pedicures will also be offered. Manicures will be $25, and pedicures will be $35.
Each spa treatment includes a free facial with make-up consultation.
Renee Rottet, an independent massage therapist, will perform the massages, Hamilton said.
"Primarily (we offer) relaxation for women -- some place for women to feel pampered and appreciated and de-stress," Hamilton said.
Since La Gaterie Spa Retreat is a place for women to relax, Hamilton hopes women will take time to relax and de-stress.
"We really hope and suggest that you lounge around after. Don't just come in and a massage or a pedicure and just leave. Come in, have your treatment, drink your tea while you're having your treatment, sit down and journal or read a book -- really just take some time for yourself and de-stress," Hamilton said.
Hamilton said she hopes La Gaterie Spa Retreat's customer service stands out from the service of other salons or spas.
La Gaterie Spa Retreat has a separate room for massages and body wraps. There's also a separate areas for manicures and pedicures. A lounge area, with a fireplace and couches and chairs, is also set up. The facility, which smells of lavender, has numerous candles lit throughout.
Hamilton said gift certificates are available, as well as special packages. Packages can include a variety of treatments including manicures, pedicures, facials, massages and body wraps. Hamilton said special packages can also include a small, complimentary lunch in addition to complimentary beverages and chocolates.
"For husbands, we can deliver flowers to your wife with a gift certificate," Hamilton said.
She said they can also arrange baskets, with items such as robes, with gift certificates.
Cash, checks, Visa and Mastercard are accepted, Hamilton said.
