Glen Lewis Wright, 89, of Jasonville, passed away at 8:40 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2005 at his home.
Born Jan. 21, 1916 in Terre Haute, he was the son of Oather A. and Jessie (Peterson) Wright. On May 25, 1946, he married Gladys Irene Shidler at the family farm at Jasonville.
He was retired after more than 30 years as a mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service. He served in the U.S. Navy Seabees in the World War II Pacific Theatre. He was a founding member and builder of Shakamak Community Church and served his church in numerous capacities. He was a member of Jasonville Lodge 530 F&AM since 1942, and a member of Jasonville American Legion Post 172.
Survivors include: his wife of 59 years Gladys Wright of Jasonville; a daughter Mrs. Brock (Sandra) Dahlin of Paris, Ill.; five grandchildren, Peter Templeton and his wife Angel of Paris, Ill., Mrs. John (Kathryn) Knapp of Tampa, Fla., Erin Templeton of Tampa, Fla., Jay Dahlin and his wife Bryna of Chicago, Ill., and Brook Dahlin of Paris, Ill.; one great-grandson Will Templeton of Paris, Ill.; and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Weldon, Carl, and Paul Wright, a son-in-law Robert Templeton, two infant brothers, and one infant sister.
Funeral service will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at the Shakamak Community Church on State Road 48, Jasonville. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery in Clay City, with military graveside rites conducted by Jasonville American Legion Post 172.
Friends may call from 5-7 p.m. on Friday at the church.
