James R. Hanson, 78, of Bloomfield, passed away at 7:53 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2005 at Greene County General Hospital in Linton.
Born May 23, 1927 in Solsberry, he was the son of Charles and Verna (Burch) Hanson. He had been married to Sarah E. Hanson, who passed away May 21, 2004.
He was a Navy veteran of World War II and worked as a supervisor for NWSC Crane. He was a member of the Bloomfield American Legion Post 196 and the Worthington VFW.
Survivors include: a daughter Bonita E. Hanson of Bloomington; two sons, James David Hanson of New Albany and Darrell Eugene Hanson of Florida; a sister Mary Gainey of Bloomfield; two brothers, John Hanson of Columbus, Ohio, and Forest Hanson of Bloomfield; two grandsons, Patrick Hanson of Bloomington and Bryant Hanson of Danville; a granddaughter Samantha Bloom of Florida; and a great-granddaughter Courtney Camby of Mooresville.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Sarah, a son Keith Hanson, and two sisters, Grace Hanson and Thelma Collings.
Funeral service will be at Jenkins & Sons Funeral Home Bloomfield at 2 p.m. on Thursday with Brother Ed Smith officiating. Burial will be at Walnut Grove Cemetery, Bloomfield. Military service will be conducted by Bloomfield American Legion Post 196.
Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. today and one hour prior to service Thursday at the funeral home.
