William "Bill" Herring, 85, of Linton, passed away at 6 p.m. Wednesday, July 27, 2005 at his residence.
Born May 2, 1920 in Greene County, he was the son of Clyde and Verna N. (Fletcher) Herring.
He worked for General Motors before earning his degree in education. He taught government and history at Mooresville, Pleasantville, Decatur and various other schools, along with coaching football. He served as a State Representative for six years. He was a member of the Western Star Lodge 26, F&AM Lodge of Danville for 62 years, the Scottish Rite, N.M.J. Valley of Indianapolis for 50 years, and the Murat Shrine of Indianapolis.
Survivors include: two nieces, Wilabob Murphy and Lonja Miller, both of Indianapolis; four great-nieces, Tamara Murphy, Tonjalee, Ericka, and Raquel Miller; a great-nephew Michael Murphy; three great-great nieces, Paige, Lauren, and Megan; and a great-great nephew Nathan.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Robert Herring.
Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. on Friday at the Fairview Cemetery in Linton with the Rev. Dean Hartman officiating.
