Glen Gates, 94, of Bloomfield, passed away at 6:43 a.m. on Saturday, July 2, 2005 at Bloomington Hospital.
Born April 5, 1911 in Champaign, Ill., he was the son of Eshol Nelson and Alice Estelle (Lewis) Gates. He married Eva (Reynolds) Gates on Dec. 25, 1938.
He taught biology and vocational agriculture at Bloomfield High School. He was also a member of Bloomfield United Methodist Church, Bloomfield Masonic Lodge 84 FA&M, and active in local 4-H. He graduated from the University of Illinois in 1938.
Survivors include: his wife, Eva (Reynolds) Gates of Bloomfield; two daughters, Nedra Spinks of Columbus, Ind., and Debra Witt of Poland, Ind.; one brother, Philip Gates of Champaign, Ill.; three sisters, Irene Phillippe of Champaign, Ill., Mary Kimes of Champaign, Ill., and Alice McKibbin of Springfield, Ill.; six grandchildren, Mark Spinks, Glen Spinks, Marc Hendrickson, Scott Yocom, Nedra Bridgewaters, and Laura Spinks; four step-grandchildren; and eight great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Eschol and Orville Gates.
Service will be 10 a.m. on Wednesday at Bloomfield United Methodist Church with the Rev. Lynn Snyder officiating. Burial will be in Grandview Cemetery in Bloomfield.
Bloomfield Masonic Lodge service will be this evening at the funeral home and American Legion Post 196 of Bloomfield will perform military honors.
Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. today at Jenkins and Sons Funeral Home in Bloomfield, and one hour prior to service Wednesday at the church.
