Evan L. Shipman, of Jasonville, passed away at 10:25 a.m. Sunday, July 3, 2005, at Sullivan Co. Hospital.
Born May 4, 1916 in Sullivan Co., he was the son of Josiah Shipman and Bessie Pigg Shipman. He was married to Gelena (McClanahan) Shipman, who passed away in 2002.
He was a member of UMW of A local 1423, and Dugger Legion Post 224. He was retired from Amax Coal Mine Minnehaha Mine. He was also a veteran of WWII and a recipient of the Purple Heart.
Survivors include: two sons, Gary Shipman and wife Deanna of Jasonville, Alan "Hoot" and wife Julie of Dugger; two daughters, Marsha Foutz and husband Randy of Princeton, and Marla Tribe and husband Tom of Jasonville; one brother, Howard Shipman of Shelburn; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Gelena McClanahan Shipman.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday at Banks and Brust Funeral Home in Sullivan with pastors Doug Cassel and Jim Swaby officiating. Burial with military rites by Dugger Post 224 Legion will be in Center Ridge Cemetery.
Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday.
