Bert Jay "B.J." Bredeweg, 72, of Lyons, passed away at 11:10 p.m. on Saturday, July 23, 2005 at his residence after a seven-year battle with cancer.
Born June 22, 1933 in Linton, he was the son of Herbert A. and Frances (Brookshire) Bredeweg. On March 4, 1956, he married Janet Gail Thornton
He attended Black Creek Elementary and Linton-Stockton High School. He was baptized and confirmed at the Linton Saron United Church of Christ, where he had served as deacon, trustee and elder, and had been a member of the Young Adult Fellowship Group. He had served as a military policeman in the U.S. Army from 1953-55. He was a life-long Greene County grain and livestock farmer.
Survivors include: his wife Janet Gail Bredeweg of Lyons; two daughters, Deborah and her husband Mike Brinker of Columbus, and Sarah and her husband Dale Keitel of Rosedale; two sons, Thomas Bredeweg and his wife Linda, and James Bredeweg and his wife Cami, all of Lyons; a sister Marie Huber of Linton; a brother Philip Bredeweg of Linton; 11 grandchildren, Zachary, Jillmarie, and B.J. Brinker, all of Columbus, Danielle, Megan, and Morgan Bredeweg, all of Lyons, Nicole Keitel of South Carolina, Natalie, Nadine and Haley Keitel, all of Rosedale, and Mieke Vanderheijden of Belgium; one great-grandson Cameron Brinker of Columbus; 10 nieces; five nephews; and numerous cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Jennie Pearl Andis.
Funeral service will be at Saron United Church of Christ in Linton at 11 a.m. on Wednesday with the Rev. Mike Roth officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Hill Cemetery in Linton.
Visitation will be at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home Linton Chapel from 4-8 p.m. on Tuesday, and on Wednesday at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
Memorials can be made to the Greene County Hospice or Saron United Church of Christ through the funeral home.
