LOVELAND, Colo. ---- Edna Ruth Hixson, 91, of Loveland, Colo., passed away Saturday, June 4, 2005 at Loveland Good Samaritan Retirement Village.
Born July 6, 1913 in Bloomfield, she was the daughter of Jasper O. and Madge (Todd) Clark, the second of two daughters. On May 2, 1937, she married Max Hixson in New Albany, Miss. He passed away Jan. 4, 1965.
She grew up and attended school in Bloomfield. She graduated from Hanover College in 1933, where she was a member of Phi Mu sorority. She taught for three years in various rural schools in Indiana. After moving to Linton, Max owned and operated a men's clothing store. Ruth started a private kindergarten in 1946 in the basement of her home and taught for 12 years. Since there was no public kindergarten, she taught most of the children in town. They moved to Loveland in 1957, where she attended Colorado State College, graduating in 1965. She then taught first grade, retiring in 1975. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church. She enjoyed her family, playing bridge, traveling, gambling, volunteering, and gardening. She had been a resident of Loveland Good Samaritan Retirement Village since 1997.
Survivors include: a daughter Joellen Henthorn of Greeley, Colo.; a son Harold Hixson of St. George, Utah; three granddaughters, Dee Woodcock, Christine Canning and Jennifer Hardleben; and six great-grandchildren, Kendra, Kaci, Jake, Grant, Sydney, and Justin.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Max, and a sister Judy O'Neil.
Graveside interment will take place 2 p.m. on June 15 at Fairview Cemetery in Linton.
