John Thomas Stone, 87, of Bloomfield, passed away at 10:28 a.m. Wednesday, May 4, 2005 at Ketcham Memorial Center in Odon.
Born Sept. 14, 1917, in Taylor Township, Greene County, he was the son of John Lee and Mary Inez (Lester) Stone. On Aug. 9, 1941, he married Mable (Haines) Stone.
He was a farmer and a school bus driver for the Bloomfield School System for 24 years. He was an avid basketball player, a former member of the Bloomfield Lions Club, served on the Board of Directors of the Greene County Co-op Association, the White River Valley Feeder Association, and became a member of the Bloomfield United Methodist Church April 2, 1950.
Survivors include: his wife Mable of Bloomfield; two daughters, Sue Ellen and her husband Wallace Barker of Newberry, and Judy Kay and her husband Odell Wright of Bloomfield; grandchildren, Brian Thomas Barker of Newberry, Jennifer Kay and her husband Bradley Brinegar of Bloomfield, and Travis Lee Barker of Newberry; and great-grandchildren, Trenton Bradley Brinegar, Chandler Thomas Brinegar, Dawson Lee Brinegar, and Alandra Kay Brinegar, all of Bloomfield.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Lee (Joe) Stone in 1990, and James R. (Bob) Stone in 1999.
Graveside service for family and friends will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Friday at Scotland Cemetery with the Rev. Lynn Snyder officiating.
There will be no public visitation.
