Bloomington North Beats Bloomfield, 4-1
Bloomfield girls' tennis team was beaten by Bloomington North, 4-1, Wednesday afternoon.
"It wasn't as easy for North as it sounds," said Bloomfield coach Mike Canty. "Bloomfield singles players played well." Number three singles, Ashley Bailey, scored Bloomfield's only point.
"For the second match in a row she started very strong and won easily over Abby Browne 6-1, 6-3," Canty added.
Brittany Kuruzovich playing at number two singles and had the heart breaking match of the evening.
After losing a close first set she battled back to win the second set. Since the match had been going on over two and a half hours it was decided to determine the winner of the match by playing a super tiebreaker. Brittany dropped the tie breaker and the match to North's Jenna Beasley.
Miranda Helms played well but was beaten easily by Shama Mehta.
"Miranda tried everything to prolong the match but Mehta's strong strokes and ability to hit lines made that tough. Miranda was beaten 6-1, 6-1," Canty added.
In doubles it was more changes to the lineup and more results the same. The number one doubles team of Rachel Thomas and Emily Gremore were beaten by North's Sam Spiro and Kate DeWeese 6-2, 6-0.
At the number two spot Jodi Trout and Shelby Neeley showed some spark in the first set but couldn't maintain the intensity and lost to Melanie Dybvig and Lauren Deckard 7-6(1), 6-2.
Bloomfield continues on the road Thursday at Owen Valley.
