Merle D. Covert, 57, of Newberry, passed away at 8 a.m. Friday, May 6, 2005 at his residence.
Born April 27, 1948 in Cuba, New York, he was the son of Merlyn F. and Evelyn E. (Cooper) Covert.
He was a mechanic for Triple C Trucking, Inc., an Army veteran, and was an avid sportsman.
Survivors include: his mother Evelyn E. Covert of Montgomery, Ala.; a brother Joe and his wife Patty Willard of Lakewood, Calif.; five sisters, Marian and her husband Eugene Pletcher of Elkhart, Shirlee and her husband Edwin Winans of Roulette, Pa., Charlotte and her husband Craig Brink of Mooresville, N.Y., Karen and her husband Jerry Ward of Montgomery, Ala., and Janet Haskins of Montgomery, Ala.; a niece Jennie and her husband Kevin Dulaney of Montgomery, Ala.; and several other nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, three brothers, Myron, B.J., and Frannie Covert and a sister Sharon Covert.
Memorial service will be at Newberry United Methodist Church at 2 p.m. on Saturday with the Rev. Darin Hendrey officiating.
There will be no visitation.
