TERRE HAUTE ---- James S. Sumansky, 80, of Terre Haute, passed away Monday, April 4, 2005 at Union Hospital in Terre Haute.
Born Nov. 12, 1924 in Terre Haute, he was the son of Joseph and Anna (Neage) Sumansky. He was married to Vera M. Rowe, who passed away May 21, 1994.
He served in the Navy during World War II as a ship's cook on the Minesweeper USS Dextrous and the USS XMS. He was a farmer in the New Goshen and a history enthusiast.
Survivors include: his companion Alice Fischer and her family of Terre Haute; a daughter Ann and her husband Tony White of Jasonville; three grandchildren, Donald, James and Shannon Forker, all of Jasonville; a sister Anna Jones of Terre Haute; a nephew Bill Sumansky and his wife Jean of Terre Haute; and several other nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Vera, a brother Joe Sumansky, and a step-brother Jack Meyers.
Funeral service will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Roselawn Funeral Home, 7500 N. Clinton, Terre Haute, with the Rev. Dennis Latta officiating. Burial will follow in the Roselawn Memorial Park.
