LAFAYETTE ---- Glenn Clifford Whiteaker, Sr., 83, formerly of Lafayette, passed away at 7 p.m. pm Tuesday, April 19, 2005 at the Indiana Veteran's Home.
Born March 27, 1922 in Tazewell, Tenn., he was the son of Isaac and Pearlie (Townsend) Whiteaker. He had also resided in Hillsboro. He married Gladys Louise Bennett in Dalton, Ga., on July 6, 1941. She preceded him in death on May 19, 1999.
He was a truck driver for McDaniel Freight Lines and Briggs Truck Line. He was a World War II Army veteran and was awarded two Bronze Stars. He enjoyed fishing, camping and mushroom hunting.
Survivors include: five sons, Glenn Whiteaker, Jr. and his wife Genny of Lafayette, Michael Whiteaker and his wife Lauretta of Rossville, Roger Whiteaker and his wife Geri of Oceanside, Calif., Randy Whiteaker of Delphi, and Patrick Whiteaker and his wife Kim of Lafayette; a daughter Phyllis and her husband Dan Horne of Lafayette; two sisters, Eva Crider and Annie King, both of Lafayette; 14 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Gladys, two sisters, and two brothers.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m. on Saturday at Hippensteel Funeral Home, 822 N. 9th St., Lafayette, with Chaplain Guy Studebaker officiating. Burial will be in Wolf Creek Cemetery, Wallace, with military graveside rites.
Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
