Gideon Marquart, 86, of Linton, passed away at 6:55 a.m. Tuesday, March 1, 2005, at Greene County General Hospital in Linton.
Born Nov. 8, 1918 in Greene County, he was the son of Albert Norton and Elsie (Schwartz) Marquart. On July 31, 1943, he married Emmalue (Hollingsworth) Marquart.
He was a sales manager for Briggs Motor Sales in Linton and later owned Sears Catalog Stores in Bloomfield and Linton. He was a member of Saron United Church of Christ in Linton and was a Navy veteran of World War II.
Survivors include: his wife Emmalue Marquart of Linton; a son Jerry Marquart and his wife Renee of Linton; two brothers, Ervin Marquart of Jacksonville, Fla., and Charles Marquart of Cloverdale; two sisters, Doris Perigo of Wabash, and June Marquart of Linton; a granddaughter Amber Hale and her husband Jason of Evansville; two step-grandchildren, Jeff Oliphant and his wife Nancy of Carmel, and Jill Fougerousse and her husband Matt of Linton; and five great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A family funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Thursday at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home Linton Chapel with the Rev. Mike Roth officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery.
There will be no public visitation at the funeral home.
The family has suggested that memorial donations be made to the Saron United Church of Christ.
