Madeline C. Kennedy, 86, of Bloomfield and formerly of Sullivan, passed away at 4:55 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 3, 2005 in Sullivan County Community Hospital.
Born Oct. 11, 1918 in Jersey City, N.J., she was the daughter of Peter and Ethel (Boyle) Bressler.
She was retired as Director of Coordination of Volunteer Services at Mary Sherman Hospital. She had served in the U.S. Marines in World War II. She was a member of First Christian Church and Nirthwood Baptist churches, OES 185, American Legion Post 139, Women's Marines Association, and a charter member of Women's Memorial.
Survivors include: her husband Harold Q. Kennedy of Bloomfield; a daughter Kathy Axe of Bloomfield; a step-daughter Rita Jackson of Oklahoma City, Okla.; one step-son Gary Kennedy of Tuttle Okla.; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday at Banks & Brust Funeral Home, 400 N. Court St., Sullivan, with the Rev. David Cox and the Rev. David Bright officiating. Burial with graveside rites by Hymera-Shelburn-Sullivan Posts will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery.
Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. today with an OES memorial service at 7:30 p.m., and from 9 a.m. until the hour of service Saturday at the funeral home.
