INDIANAPOLIS ---- Betty Brandon, 81, of Indianapolis, passed away Dec. 26, 2004 at the Health Care Unit of Robin Run Retirement Community in Indianapolis. She was a longtime resident of New Albany.
She was born Elizabeth Rose Woodrow in Hymera on July 8, 1923. In 1945, Betty married John A. Brandon, who preceded her in death in 1987.
She graduated from Bloomfield High School in 1941 and attended Indiana University in Bloomington. She was a member of Central Christian Church, Disciples of Christ, Fortnightly Club, and Tri Kappa. She was a volunteer for the Friends of New Albany-Floyd County Public Library, the Interfaith Community Council, Trash Force Recycling Center, and many other civic organizations. In 1986, she retired from the Social Security Administration Office of Hearings and Appeals in Louisville, Ky. She was an avid bird watcher, nature enthusiast, and Indiana University basketball fan.
Survivors include: her sister Ruthmary Ivens; two daughters and sons-in-law, Maryann and Ted Sturges, and Laura and Jack Lee; and four grandchildren, Evan Sturges, Dara Sturges, Elisabeth Lee and Catherine Lee.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday at Central Christian Church, 1315 E. Spring St., New Albany, 47150.
Friends may call from noon until the hour of service at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to Central Christian Church or the National Audubon Society.
