Dorence L. VanSant, 88, of Sullivan, passed away at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 30, 2004 at his residence.
Born Feb. 25, 1916 in Greene County, he was the son of John and Nora (Staker) VanSant. He was married to Frances I. (Crooks) VanSant, who passed away in 1986.
He was a retired carpenter and a member of the American Legion Post 139, VFW Post 2495, Carpenter's Union 546 Vincennes. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps.
Survivors include: two sons, Jim and Robert VanSant, both of Shelburn; three daughters, Denise VanSant of Sullivan, Valeria Drake of Terre Haute, and Jennine Gore of Greenwood; 18 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Frances I. (Crooks) VanSant, a son Bobby VanSant, a daughter Barbara Hughes, and three brothers.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at Alexander-Kean Funeral Home, Sullivan, with the Rev. David Cox officiating. Burial will be in K&P Cemetery, Hymera. There will be full military graveside services conducted by American Legions Sullivan 139, Shelburn 197, and Hymera 289 and VFW 2459.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 4-8 p.m. on Tuesday, and from 9 a.m. until the time of service Wednesday.
