ODON ---- Ruth M. Cummings, 86, of Solsberry, passed away Thursday, Nov. 4, 2004 at Bloomington Hospital.
Born March 11, 1918 in Dugger, she was the daughter of Oren and Katherine (Reynolds) Young.
For 49 years she was married to the late Lt. Col. (Ret.) John R. Cummings, Sr. Prior to moving to Solsberry four years ago to live with her daughter and granddaughter, she was an active member of the Daviess County Democratic Club, VFW Women's Auxiliary, and Odon Senior Citizen's Center. She was a gifted flower arranger, a passionate Indiana University and Indiana Pacers basketball fan and an intuitive and fierce euchre player who passed her great skills on to multiple generations.
Survivors include: a daughter Rowena Lankford of Solsberry; a son and daughter-in-law John Cummings Jr. and Nancy Cummings of Bloomfield; two granddaughters, Kendall Lankford of Solsberry and Kiersten Schiffer of New Hartford, Conn.; two grandsons, John Cummings III of Bloomfield and Matthew Cummings of Shanghai, China; four great-grandchildren; a nephew Dennis Young of Indianapolis; and her faithful Boston Terrier companion, Bobby Knight.
She was preceded in death by her husband, two sisters, Ethel Young and Myrtle Cox, and two brothers, Willard Young and Bootjack Reynolds.
Funeral service were conducted at 10:30 a.m. today at Poindexter-Hall & McClure Funeral Home in Odon. Burial will be at Walnut Hill Cemetery.
Visitation was on Sunday at the funeral home.
The family has asked that memorial contributions be made to the Odon Senior Citizens Center.
