Sara H. Burcham, 103, of Greenwood, passed away Friday, Oct. 22, 2004
Born July 19, 1901 in Taylor Township, Bloomfield, she was the daughter of Jason and Jane (Brossman) Huffman.
She was an assistant principal and taught mathematics in Solsberry. She also taught math and botany in Filmore and Bloomfield High School and taught math and coached girls basketball in Chesterton. She was a member of Alpha Xi Delta, active in PEO Chapters-O in Gary and Chapter AO in Greenwood, Tri Kappa, president of Methodist Hospital Guild, College Club and Women's Club, all in Gary. She belonged to Greenwood United Methodist Church.
Survivors include: two daughters, Melinda Burcham and Gigi McKnight-High; two nieces, Ardith Huffman Scott and Beverly Burcham Dantzler; a nephew Keith Huffman; two step-granddaughters, Morgan High Shockley and Carrie High Wittekind; and many loving great nieces, nephews and step-great granddaughters.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years James B. Burcham MD; two brothers, Leslie and Beveridge Huffman; a half-sister Gladys Adams; a half-brother Doney Huffman; and her parents.
Graveside service will be at 3 p.m. today at Switz City Cemetery with the Rev. Billy Ed Hostettler officiating. Burial to follow at Switz City Cemetery.
