Mildred F. Helms, 98, of Bloomington and formerly of Bloomfield, passed away at 7 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 23, 2004 at Bell Trace Health & Living Center, Bloomington.
Born Aug. 29, 1906 in Richland Township, Greene County, she was the daughter of Homer and Ora (Dilley) Heaton. She had been married to Harvey Helms Sr., who passed away Dec. 10, 1988.
She was a homemaker and a member of Pleasant Ridge Church, Bloomfield.
Survivors include: seven daughters, Dorothy James of Lyons, Margaret Leigh of Dugger, Vada Clayton of Bloomington, Ora Olive Vandeventer of Bloomfield, Lorene Lindsey of Bloomfield, Nancy Craig of Bloomington and Nellie Yoho of Bloomington; four sons, Oscar Helms of Barry, Ill., Harvey Helms Jr. of Bloomington, Homer Helms of Spencer, and James Ronald Helms of Bloomfield; 35 grandchildren; 64 great-grandchildren; 56 great-great grandchildren; and two great-great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Harvey Helms Sr.; one daughter Evelyn Hamlin; four sisters, Bernice Jasper, Mary Ruth Canada and two infant sisters; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and one great-great grandchild.
Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. on Tuesday at Jenkins Funeral Home Bloomfield with the Rev. Eugene Helms officiating. Burial will be in Tulip Cemetery, Bloomfield.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 3-8 p.m. today, and from 11 a.m. until the hour of service Tuesday.
