Alfred M. Schwinghammer, 71, of Linton, passed away Tuesday afternoon, Oct. 26, 2004 at his residence in Linton.
Born Nov. 25, 1932 in Dubois County, he was the son of James "Jake" and Dorothea (Heilers) Schwinghammer. He married Mary (Wood) Schwinghammer on Sept. 29, 1956.
He retired under SBC after working 58 years as an electronic switching technician. He attended Linton First Baptist Church, was an Army veteran of the Korean War and was a member of American Legion Post 22.
Survivors include: his wife Mary (Wood) Schwinghammer of Linton; a son Terry K. Schwinghammer of Indianapolis; a daughter Susan and her husband Mark Martin of Brownsburg; a brother Wilfred "Butch" and his wife Betty Schwinghammer of Ferdinand; two sisters, Mary Stidham of Tacoma, Wash., and Viola Seidl of Huntingburg; a granddaughter Jenna Martin of Brownsburg; former sister-in-law and good friend Jo and her husband George Lewallen of Huntingburg; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother John Schwinghammer, and a sister Eleanor Mitchell.
Memorial service will be conducted at Linton First Baptist Church at a later date, with the Rev. David Tyra officiating.
