Margaret Virginia Winfrey, 84, of Vicksburg, passed away at 4:35 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 9, 2004 at Greene County General Hospital in Linton.
Born Nov. 15, 1919 in Lawrenceburg, Tenn., she was the daughter of Martin Ingvald and Minnie Anna (Hill) Ellingson.
She was an LPN and took care of many elderly clients until 2003. She received her beauty license in the 1940s. She was the senior active member of the Bethel Baptist Church. She worked in the defense plant in Detroit, Mich., as a "Rosie the Riveter" during World War II.
Survivors include: a son James Elling Winfrey of Vicksburg; a brother Billy Norman Ellingson of Erin, Tenn.; three sisters, Irene Williams of Hayward Calif., Marie Stockard of Tennessee Ridge, Tenn., and Eris Lynette Deason of Tennessee Ridge, Tenn.; and one granddaughter Erin Dickman of Manchester, Vt.
She was preceded in death by her husband William Herschell Winfrey, Sr. in 1959; a son William Herschell Winfrey, Jr. in 2004; a brother Martin T. Ellingson, Jr.; a sister Lona Belle Day and her parents.
Funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Monday at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home Linton Chapel with the Revs. Doug Castle and Bob Dickey officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Linton.
Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. on Sunday, and after 9 a.m. on Monday at the funeral home.
