John Henry Lafollette, 81, of Sullivan, passed away at 9:45 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 22, 2004, at Terre Haute Regional Hospital.
Born May 2, 1923 in Sullivan, he was the son of John Henry and Effie Mae (Eslinger) Lafollette.
He was owner and operator of the Diamond Barbecue for 30 years in Sullivan. He also served 13 years on the Sullivan Police Department. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Air Force, a life member of the VFW Post 2459, a life member of the American Legion Post 139, life member of the Sullivan Elks 911 and life member of the Sullivan IOOF 147.
Survivors include: his companion of 32 years Marjore Thomas of Sullivan; a son Richard Lafollette of Sullivan; a daughter Janice Wood of Sandborn; a sister Mary Elkins of Sarasota, Fla.; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son Randy Lafollette in 1986, and several brothers and sisters.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday at Alexander-Kean Funeral Home, Sullivan with his nephew Barney Lafollette officiating. Burial will be at New Harmony Cemetery in Prairie Creek. Full military graveside service will be by the Sullivan VFW, Sullivan American Legion, Shelburn American Legion, and Hymera American Legion.
Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. today, and from 9 a.m. until the time of service Saturday at the funeral home.
