Sophia J. (Kern) Asdell, 95, of Scotland, passed away at 5:20 p.m. Friday, Sept. 24, 2004 at Greene County General Hospital.
Born Dec. 29, 1908 in Greene County, she was the daughter of Joseph P. and Cora (Blackmore) Kern. She was married to Joseph L. (Drib) Asdell who preceded her in death on Aug. 4, 1990.
She worked in production at U.S. Rubber and Sarkes Tarzian for 17 years and also at NAD Crane for 12 years. She was a member of the Scotland United Methodist Church, Ladies Aid at the church, and contributed articles to The Evening World newspaper in Bloomfield.
Survivors include: four sons, Kenneth Asdell and Joe Asdell, both of Odon, Dr. Benoni W. Asdell of Loogootee, and Bill Asdell of Mantengo, Ill.; one daughter June Baron of Las Vegas, Nev.; 18 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Joseph L. (Drib) Asdell, four brothers, four sisters, and one infant daughter Drina Asdell.
Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. today at Scotland United Methodist Church with the Rev. Billy Ed Hostettler and the Rev. Darin Hardesty officiating. Burial will be at Scotland Cemetery.
Visitation was from 4-8 p.m. on Sunday at Jenkins & Sons Funeral Home, Bloomfield and one hour prior to services today at Scotland United Methodist Church.
