Ira A. Howard, 90, of Indianapolis and formerly of Sandborn, passed away at 12:50 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 10, 2004 at his residence.
Born Nov. 14, 1913 in Odon, he was the son of Elmer and Effie (Atchley) Howard. He married Dorothy L. (Lynn) Howard on May 20, 1936.
Ira worked for United Oil Service in maintenance and was a carpenter for Howard Construction. He retired in 1986. He was a member of Sandborn United Methodist Church, Englewood Masonic Lodge 715 F&AM, Scottish Rite Valley of Indianapolis and Murat Shrine of Indianapolis.
Survivors include: his wife Dorothy L. (Lynn) Howard of Indianapolis; three daughters, Marilyn Durham of Greenwood, Beverly Wheeler of Indianapolis, and Barbara Pate of Indianapolis; two sons, Elmer C. Howard of Indianapolis and James A. Howard of Fountaintown; 18 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Calvin Howard of Indianapolis and Arthur Howard of Elnora; and four sisters, Lorene Ballard of Brooklyn, Ind., Cora Boling of Mooresville, Dorothy Hudson of Bloomington, and Norma Zigler of Newberry.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, one brother, and two granddaughters.
Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. on Thursday at Anderson-Poindexter Sandborn Chapel with the Rev. Tom Anderson officiating. Burial will be in Prairie Chapel Cemetery Newberry.
Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. today, and from 9 a.m. until the time of service Thursday at the funeral home. There will be a Masonic Memorial Service at 7 p.m. today.
