CORY ---- John R. Streeter, 84, of Cory, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2004 at his residence.
Born Oct. 12, 1919 in Riley, he was the son of Virgil and Hallie (Ingram) Streeter. On Sept. 14, 1940, he married Ruth L. Jeffers who preceded him in death on March 27, 2002.
He retired in 1981 from Peabody Coal as Director of Reclamations following 47 years of service starting at the age of 16. He also farmed and did carpentry work. He belonged to the United Mine Workers of America.
Survivors include: one son James Streeter and his wife Jewell Kay of Vincennes; two daughters, Janice Myers and Jane and her husband David Lewis, both of Cory; seven grandchildren, John A. Streeter of Vincennes, Julie K. and her husband Dirk McCammon of Seelyville, Justin Collins of Cory, Ashley Collins of Cory, Jill and her husband Darrick Scott of West Terre Haute, David Myers and his wife Travella of Cory, and Darrin Myers and his wife Trina of Cory; seven great-grandchildren, Annabelle M. McCammon, Jordynn Scott, Jaylynn Scott, Paiden Myers, Gavin Myers, Carter Myers, and Lauryn Myers; and two sisters, Mary and her husband Glen Moseman of Riley and Thelma Thompson of Middlesboro, Ky.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil and Hallie; his loving wife, Ruth; brothers, Noble, Russ, and Bartie Streeter; sisters, Mildred Cottom and Ruby Nicoson; and great-granddaughter Jaclynn Scott.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. on Sunday at Mattox-Fox Funeral Home in Riley with Pastor Anthony Terrell and the Rev. Owen Youngblood officiating. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery.
Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.
