ATTICA - Viola Jean (Solomon) Penick, 85, of Lafayette, passed away at 10:45 a.m. on Sunday, August 22, 2004 in the Rosewalk Village, Lafayette.
Born on March 5, 1919 in Warren County, she was the daughter of Finton and Minerva Fink Solomon. On May 9, 1937, she married Carlson Loyd "Cot" Penick in Attica. He preceded her in death on November 2, 1990.
Viola was raised in Warren County, attending the Kramer school. She formerly worked as a postmistress for the Kramer Post Office. She later moved to Gary, where she worked for the Wonder Bakery. In 1974, she moved back to the Attica area and worked at the Summer's Campground in rural Attica.
Viola enjoyed playing bunco. She liked to crochet and knit. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the V.F.W. Post 3318 of Attica.
Survivors include: a son Robert Penick of Crofton, Md.; four daughters, Mary Lou Kienzynski of Bloomfield, Karen Sue Krooswyk, Pamela Jean Lowell and Rebecca Lynn and her husband Sam Fish, all of Lafayette; two sisters, Pauline Cooper and Waneta Blankenship, both of Attica; 15 grandchildren, 3 of which are from Bloomfield, Vickie Long, Valerie Chipman, and Mary Sue Thompson; two step grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and two step great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, an infant son Carl Gene Penick, two brothers, Kenny and Morgan Solomon, and a sister Frances Nichols.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Maus Funeral Home, Attica, with Pastor Bob Elness officiating. Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery, Attica.
Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, with a V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary service at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
