Cecil "Benny" E. Benefiel, 85, of Washington, passed away at 7:50 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 24, 2004 at Eastgate Manor Nursing Center, Washington.
Born April 14, 1919 in Greene County, he was the son of Francis and Myrtle (Henderson) Benefiel. On Nov. 15, 1945, he married Evelyn (Wright) Benefiel.
He was an U.S. Army veteran and served in the South Pacific. He worked in the security department at NWSC Crane for 20 years, retiring in 1970. He was a member of Elnora Christian Church, Odon VFW, Indianapolis American Legion, Shoals DAV, and Worthington CCC Camp. He was an avid rock and coin collector.
Survivors include his wife Evelyn Benefiel of Washington; a son Robert Benefiel of Greenfield; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one brother Thomas Benefiel of Indianapolis.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son Roger Benefiel, one brother and four sisters.
Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Poindexter-Hall & McClure Funeral Home/Odon Chapel with the Rev. Terry Johnson officiating. Committal services will be at noon at the Greene County Chapel Cemetery, Stanford.
